#888Live London Festival Opening Event at Aspers Kicks of 11 Days of Poker
Sunday 16th of October saw the final day of the #888Live London Festival Opening Event take place at Aspers Casino Westfield. Three starting days saw a huge 700 entries whittled down to the final 109 players.
Record Turnout
Those 700 entries added up to a record field for a poker tournament held in London with a guarantee of under £100,000, and that success was no accident. It was built on the hard work of the partnership between 888poker and Aspers, as well as the loyalty of a strong regular customer base.
The large turnout was a testament to the popularity of the 888poker events that have been hosted at the 888 branded poker room at Aspers, and a fitting way to kick off the eleven-day long festival of poker.
The numbers meant the £100,000 guarantee was smashed and a whopping prize pool of £138,600 was up for grabs. The final 72 places would be paid with a min-cash worth £445. The winner would get £24,000 plus a ticket to the £880 buy-in Main Event as well as the trophy and the title.
Big Names Playing
Plenty of big names had fired one or more bullets in an attempt to make it to the money, and the biggest was surely new 888poker Ambassador and the biggest online tournament winner of all time, Chris Moorman, who played Day 1c.
Making an appearance on Day 1a was ex-England and Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham. Sheringham has close to $300,000 in live tournament earnings to his name so was not there just to make up the numbers.
Neither of them would make Day 2, but they will be back to play further events at the festival alongside a host of other famous poker pros.
Final Day Chip Leaders
As play got underway at 1pm on Sunday the chip leaders were Arron Fletcher on 535,000 in the lead with Graham Hawkes second with 515,000 and James Mitchell third placed with 512,000.
Other big names in the field were Steve Watts and Chas Chathha.
One of the early fallers was popular circuit player Kelly Saxby, and there was a steady exit of players until there were 73 remaining and action moved to hand-for-hand on the money bubble. It was quite quickly burst, and the unfortunate player was the final surviving 888poker online qualifier Ronnie Blank who flopped a set of threes but was up against Aaron Fletcher who had flopped a straight.

Play To a Winner
From then on everyone was in the money and the play was a little more relaxed. But the more competitive the players looked to ladder up, as they began to see the big prize money get closer.
It took nearly ten hours of high-quality poker before the final table of nine was set and the seat draw and chip counts at that point looked like this:
