Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, there have been some changes in the way you claim prizes in Maryland. You can find updates on our dedicated Coronavirus Lottery Updates page.

Maryland is one of a handful of states that lets winners remain anonymous. The winner's name and photo are not released without written permission.

Winners may claim prizes of any amount by mail; see details below. Lottery tickets worth $600 or less can also be claimed at authorized Maryland Lottery retailers.

For all prizes over $600, you'll need to bring photo ID, proof of your Social Security or Tax ID number and your signed winning ticket when you claim.

Prizes worth between $601 and $5,000 can be claimed at Expanded Cashing Authority (XCAP) centers across the state.

Were you lucky enough to win a prize from $5,001 through $25,000? You'll need to pay a visit to the Maryland Lottery Customer Resource Center in Baltimore, or claim at selected casinos.

If you've landed a prize worth $25,000 or more, then you'll have to redeem your winning ticket at the Maryland Lottery's office in Baltimore; it will take 15 business days or more to process your ticket.

Anyone who wins a jackpot prize on a Maryland Lottery game (including Mega Millions and Powerball) has 182 days after the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

If you win a Maryland Lottery prize between $500 and $5,000, you're required to file a Maryland Payment Voucher Form and pay taxes on the prize money within 60 days of receiving your winnings.

Prizes over $5,000 will have 24 percent withheld in federal taxes. Maryland residents will have an additional 8.75 percent levied on their prize by the state, while large prizes for out-of-state residents will face an additional 7.5 percent tax on top of federal withholdings.

History of the Maryland Lottery

Lotto Winning Numbers

The Maryland Lottery was established by popular vote in 1972 and began operating in January 1973. Since then, the Lottery has offered several well-loved games and produced several big winners. In 2012, a three-member lottery pool from the Old Line State won a share of the record-breaking $656 million Mega Millions jackpot. Each winner opted for a lump sum payment worth $35 million. Maryland is also one of the few states in the U.S. that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.
